Just had a thought in my mind
I really wanted to share with you.
It involves my 13-yr old daughter Lindsey.
Give me just a couple of minutes.
Let me explain…did I get scammed?
My daughter came home from school on Monday and
proceeded to cover all the reasons she wanted to
be on Student Council. It was neat to see her excitement
and desire to lead. As I listened though I began to
notice a theme running through her speech. It began
to sound almost canned and as if she was peddling
someone else’s ideas and thoughts about issues
facing the students. (Things that almost did not seem
to me to be the thoughts of an average 13 year old)

I find it interesting how often I see people attempt to win
the acceptance of those around them just hoping they will
be liked and loved but, not really voicing their own real
ideas, thoughts and opinions? It is as if they are willing
to give away their power in order to gain other peoples
approval. It is truly sad to watch the masses of humanity
just doing what seems to be socially acceptable because
that is what everyone else is saying and doing.
IT IS TIME THAT MORE PEOPLE STAND UP AND
BECOME LEADERS AND VOICE OUR OWN THOUGHTS
AND OPINIONS THAN EVER BEFORE!
That we as a people begin to dream again of a better today
and a better tomorrow where we as people no longer just
go with the flow of average thinkers and average doers. It is
time for us to take our Freedom and Power back and to step
into our voice for what we believe to be truly important!
Enough of my rant…

People ask me all the time how I am able to be so open,
vulnerable, confident, happy, free, and fun? (Like a kid on
summer vacation with no cares in the world) They ask me
if it is possible for them to have my level of energy, joy, and
inner peace? I always say YES! Anyone can be like this
if they choose to BE! It just requires taking your LIFE back
into your own hands and telling the rest of the world that
they are going to play by your rules and not theirs…there
is a nugget of value in the last statement. People are waiting
for leaders like you to rise up and give them permission to be
happy and free again. TO DREAM AND CREATE!
We all were born for more than status quo…

Back to my daughter Lindsey, and “Student Council”.
I asked her where the ideas and thoughts came from
and what she was sharing and how she felt about them.
She said, well dad I care about being on Student Council.
I said, but Lindsey do you care about the issues you are
telling me in your speech? She said “Not Really”.
I said well then my dear it would do you more good to tell
people around you about the the things you do care about
and not what you think they want to hear!
Then yesterday she came home and wanted help knowing
what to put on her campaign flyers she was going to post
and hand out to the other students in order to gain their votes.
I said Lindsey why should they vote for you? She stood their
looking at me with her puppy dog eyes and said “I don’t know?”
Again, I explained to her that she was now doing what I had
told her to avoid before…looking for someone else to tell her
what to say and do to gain approval.
Of course I asked her again, Why should anyone vote for you?
Her answer shocked me. She said, “Because I am going to
be myself and an example of hope and leadership to my school”.
I said, “Wow”! Now that was you and that is all you need. I told
you you knew what to say and what to do. I was beaming with
pride as I am sure you would be as well.

So, anyway I hope this note has inspired you to believe
again if you were lost and hopeless. Or has inflamed your
passion even more if you are already on fire. Maybe empowered
you to be yourself more if you have been giving in to approval.
The only person who has ever really scammed me is ME!

lengths to fulfill our Ego’s desire for more and miss the gift
that comes from our individual authenticity.
